The Spector Mute was designed with the collaboration of Fred Spector, a musician with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Jim Cavanaugh of Super-Sensitive Musical String Co. The actual functional design dates back to the 1700s. The main principal is a sliding mute, which remains on the strings even when not in use. With todays technology, they were able to use state-ofthe-art dampening rubber that scientifically dampens the sound being transferred from the strings through the bridge to the body of the instrument.
